I’m Yixiang Zhu, my nickname is Ethan. I’m from Shanghai, China. There’s a pillar in the middle of Shanghai, it is called Nine Dragon Pillar because there are nine dragon pictures on it. My mum said there’s a dragon under the ground, So we should build a Dragon Pillar. Then the dragon won’t do anything. And I know another thing that is very strange. In Xu Jia Hui, I always heard a song called ‘sorry baby’. Because it was a place that took care of kids. But a lot of kids died here. After built this building, at night, the guards always heard kids crying but they found nothing in the mall. So they should play this song everyday to make the kids feel well. That’s all. My hobby is to do sports such as basketball. My favourite subject in school is Algebra because it’s quite easy.

Hello, I am Kristen Young, and I am from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Although I live in Shrewsbury now, I was born in Worcester Massachusetts. The invention of the smiley face was invented in Worcester by Harvey Ball in 1964. In the early 1960’s, the State Mutual Life Assurance of Worcester merged with another company. To ease the bitter aftermath of this event, Harvey Ball designed the smiley face. By 1970, this design became a symbol that was used across America, and it is now one of the most well-known images in the country. Also, the Native American Pakachoag tribes of the Nipmuc nation were the first settlers of Worcester. These tribes settled along Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts. My hobbies include playing sports and reading. I swim in the fall, play basketball in the winter, and softball in the spring. My favorite sport is softball. I also really enjoy reading, and my favorite book is “The It Girl” by Cecily von Ziegesar. Lastly, my favorite subject in school is English.

Hello, my name is Elena Stamatakos. I live in Holliston, Massachusetts. I was born in Kentucky, but moved when I was two-years-old to Massachusetts. My favorite piece of history from Holliston is the story of the Balancing Rock. This rock is also known as George Washington Rock. This is because there is a legend that George Washington and his troops spent a day of fun trying to push the rock over. The rock looks like it sits precariously on the rock below it, but it weighs a few tons and no amount of soldiers could push it over. Holliston was founded in 1724 and named in honor of a Harvard benefactor Tomas Hollis. The town has grown from a few hundred residents to 13,000 and now has attractions such as, Broad Hill Vineyards, Fatima Shrine, the Congregational Church, and Lake Winthrop Beach. Some of my hobbies include riding horses, soccer, piano, and art. My favorite subjects in school are any science or math classes.

Hey Ethan, Elena and Josh. I found your blog entries very interesting and enjoyed getting to know all of you better. You all seem to love math which is something I struggle with so maybe you can give me a few pointers! I am also very curious about the Chinese lifestyle. For Ethan and Josh, how is China different from America? What are your favorite things about living in China that you miss when you are here in America? Elena, I did not know you lived in Kentucky! How long did you live there? Did you like it? Was it a lot different than Holliston?

Hi everyone! I also enjoyed reading everyone’s blogs. I only lived in Kentucky fr a few years and moved to Massachusetts when i was little. I visit there often to see family though. I don’t notice too many differences between Massachusetts and Kentucky but there are some. The restaurant chains are different, instead of Bertucci’s for example there are White Castles in Kentucky. The mid-western accent is different too! Ethan and Josh, I’d love to hear more about China as well! Are there any interesting customs or traditions either of you can think of to share with Kristen and I?

wow…I think it’s just an introduction…Sorry for commenting now…Hi everyone! I live in Shanghai, which locates in the east of China. When I was in junior high school, I was under a lot of pressure. All question are difficult to understand, but English in Shanghai is really easy. So I want to further my English and make American friends in this school. I think in Shanghai, the most special thing is food. Have you heard steam bread or spring rolls? Those taste really delicious. Twisted cruller is also nice. In China, we don’t have Thanksgiving Day, so I have never tasted turkey before. We don’t have Xmas either. We have Spring Festival. At that time, we usually have dinner with my grandparents and my relatives, have dumplings and play fireworks. We really have fun in Spring Festival. Would you like to share American customs or traditions with us?
